Defender to concentrate on World Cup before deciding on future

Holland defender Andre Ooijer has been left devastated after his release from PSV Eindhoven. The 35-year-old only returned to Phillips Stadion last summer on a one-year deal, having left in 2006 for a three-season spell at Blackburn Rovers. Ooijer hoped for a contract extension with PSV and has therefore been left upset that the club did not want to offer a new deal, although he could move into a non-playing role. "It was painful," he told De Telegraaf. "The worst thing is that I have played my last game for PSV. I love this club and have enjoyed playing for them for more than 10 years and now I do not even have the chance for a proper goodbye. Yes, I feel quite a lot of pain.

Farewell

"I had not spoken with people from the club. I knew it was not certain that they would extend my contract when it expired, but I thought I could still go on playing for PSV for another year. "I am not ready for this, it is too early for a farewell." Ooijer, who played for PSV for eight years before joining Rovers, will now focus his attentions on the World Cup, as he is part of Holland's initial squad, before deciding on his future. "I must now focus entirely on the Dutch national team," he said. "I would prefer another year playing football. After the World Cup, I will just see who is interested in me. "PSV have also informed me that I can remain involved with the club. That means a lot to me. It is my club. "
