Stalwart rewarded for decade of service

Alje Schut has been handed a one-year contract extension with Eredivisie outfit FC Utrecht. Technical director Foeke Booy has confirmed that the 29-year-old will stay with the club for an 11th season, after making his debut in October 1999. He suffered a serious knee injury last season but has responded well this term and FC Utrecht are on the verge of European football, leading the Europa League play-off with Roda JC 2-0 ahead of Sunday's second leg. Schut said: "This contract extension means a lot to me." Mike van der Kooy and Leroy George may leave the club, while negotiations are continuing with Gregoor van Dijk over a two-year contract.
