Heracles have told captain Rob Maas and Marnix Smit that they will be released this summer. Both players' contracts expire at the end of the season and the Almelo club have made their decision. Heracles had to made their decision by April 1st, although general director Nico Jan Hoogma has suggested that both could yet have futures at the club. "It is a formal matter and it is absolutely not said that we say goodbye to Marnix and Rob," said Hoogma. "The coming weeks we will, once we have secured ourselves in the Eredivisie, negotiate further. That counts for the whole squad."
