Argentine midfielder punished for spitting at opponent

Nurnberg midfielder Javier Pinola has been banned for four games after spitting at Bastian Schweinsteiger. The Argentine clashed with the Bayern Munich playmaker during a Bundesliga fixture at the Allianz Arena last Sunday. The match officials missed the incident at the time, but the German Football Federation (DGB) has taken retrospective action. Their disciplinary committee investigated the matter on Monday and have now announced their decision. They found Pinola guilty of 'extreme sporting misconduct' and he will now miss Nurnberg's next four league games.

Apology

He will not be available again until 18th December, when Nurnberg take on Hannover. Pinola is also facing a fine from his club, who admit that their man acted out of line. The 27-year-old has, however, attempted to patch things up with Schweinsteiger by issuing an apology to the Germany international. "I am ashamed of myself," he told Bild. "I am deeply sorry, that shouldn't have happened."
