Hertha Berlin midfielder Thorben Marx has rejected an offer to join Nurnberg.
Unsettled Hertha Berlin midfielder Thorben Marx has turned down an offer to join Bundesliga rivals FC Nurnberg, much to the dismay of his general manager Dieter Hoeness.
The former Germany Under-21 international has found first team football hard to come by at the Olympia Stadion this season, and a move to Bundesliga strugglers Nurnberg would have been an ideal opportunity to kick-start what many considered to be a promising career when the player first burst onto the scene.
However, Marx was not won over by Nurnberg's offer and the 24-year-old will now remain at Hertha for the foreseeable future.
"The whole package deal was just not right and I am looking for a fresh start in the summer," he declared.
The decision has not gone down well with Hertha general manager Hoeness, who is keen to reduce his squad, and subsequently made no secret of his frustration during a recent outburst.
"I am surprised and can't understand his decision as he had the chance to join a club where he would have been a regular starter, while we have far too many competitors in midfield," Hoeness told Kicker.
Marx is now expected to see out the rest of his contract in the German capital in order to enhance his options this summer, when he can leave the club on a free transfer.
