Palop - Alves better than Pepe

Sevilla goalkeeper Andres Palop believes Barca's fee of 30million euros for Daniel Alves was a Brazilian bargain.

Wing-back is a hot prospect says ex team-mate

Sevilla keeper Andres Palop believes Barcelona's fee of 30million Euros for Daniel Alves was a Brazilian bargain. The ex-Sevilla wing-back will transfer to Camp Nou in the summer for the hefty fee - which equals nearly £24million - but he has received praise from his former team-mate, with Palop saying Spanish rivals Real Madrid have paid too much for Pepe at the same price. "The signing will end up looking cheap because if Pepe cost 30million euros then I do not see how Alves can only cost that much," he said. "I am convinced that he will become a favourite with Barcelona because he is such an exciting player. "He is a player that, once the other team gains possession, he tries to return to his position as quickly as possible to recover it. "Alves is a really great player - very attacking and a hard worker. He does not let his head drop when he loses the ball and he gives the team many options." Palop also revealed the Brazilian attacking defender was a set-piece specialist and that the 25-year-old enjoys going forward to try and score goals. "He does not mind doing anything for the team and enjoys hard work," he added.
