Lucio set for Bayer stay

BUNDESLIGA leaders Bayer Leverkusen have announced that star defender Lucio will be staying at the BayArena for another season at least.

Speaking after Bayer clinched a valuable point in Hamburg on Saturday, general manager Reiner Calmund told the press that the 23-year old Brazilian star would not be part of a feared exit of his best talent at the end of the season.

"We have spoken about the situation. He feels at home with us and will definitely be staying on," said Calmund.

He did add that he was prepared to discuss a move with the Brazilian next season despite him being contracted with the club until 2005.

Several top European sides have been reportedly eyeing Lucio after his excellent performances this season have taken Bayer to the brink of their first-ever Bundesliga title.

Meanwhile, Leverkusen coach Klaus Toppmoller has confirmed that he is hopeful of strengthening his squad with the signing of 20-year old Sao Paulo midfielder Kaka.

"He is at the top of our shopping list," said Toppmoller in an interview with Kicker.
