Defender excited by trip to Allianz Arena

Manchester City defender Vincent Kompany is looking forward to competing against the best players in Europe in the UEFA Champions League. Roberto Mancini's expensively-assembled squad are preparing themselves for next week's European opener against Napoli at the Etihad Stadium. City will then travel to four-time kings of the continent Bayern Munich on 27th September, when the calibre of the Champions League will be fully evident. Kompany, a 2008 signing from Hamburg, is excited by the prospect and the opportunity of a reunion with Jerome Boateng, who left City for Bayern in July. "Everyone from our squad is looking forward to playing Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena in the Champions League," Kompany told Deutsche Presseagentur. "We are especially looking forward to meeting up with Jerome Boateng. Playing in the Champions League is fantastic. "We all said right from the beginning that we wanted to test ourselves with the biggest teams in Europe. Now we are going to do so."
