Valdez makes Dortmund switch

Werder Bremen striker Nelson Valdez has completed a move to Borussia Dortmund.

Werder Bremen striker Nelson Valdez has completed a move to Bundesliga rivals Borussia Dortmund.

The 22-year-old Paraguayan international striker put pen to paper on a four-year deal with the 1997 European champions on Tuesday after lengthy negotiations between the clubs reached a successful end.

No details as to the transfer fee involved have been revealed, although it is believed to be in the region of ‚é¼4.7 million (£3 million).

Valdez scored 21 goals in 80 league matches for Bremen but was often only a substitute, as he could not dislodge the partnership between Miroslav Klose and Ivan Klasnic.

"We are delighted that we have reached an agreement with Werder Bremen, as Nelson has always been at the top of our shopping list," said BVB chairman Hans-Joachim Watzke.

"He's always dangerous in front of goal and the man we need to strengthen our team."
