Rost likely to play

Number one keeper Frank Rost has reported back to Schalke duty ahead of the PSV game.

Schalke have received a boost ahead of their vital UEFA Champions League home tie against PSV Eindhoven after learning that number one keeper Frank Rost has reported back to duty.

A knee injury had sidelined the in-form shot-stopper for the past three weeks and it was initially feared that he would not be able to line up on Wednesday night.

However, the veteran has successfully returned to training this week and, provided that he passes a late fitness test, he looks set to replace the inexperienced reserve keeper Christofer Heimeroth.

‚Ç£Things look good at the moment and we believe that he is able to play,‚Ç¥ declared S04 boss Ralf Rangnick.

The Royal Blues must look for victory in order to keep their chances for the knockout stage alive and need a win by a two-goal margin over their Dutch neighbours after they were beaten 1-0 at Philips Stadion.

‚Ç£Eindhoven is vulnerable in the back and we have to ensure that they won't be able to run the match by keeping them under pressure,‚Ç¥ stressed Rangnick, who must do without the suspended Brazilian right back Rafinha.

The versatile Turkish international midfielder Hamit Altintop is expected to fill the void left by Rafinha's absence and Gustavo Varela and Gerald Asamoah, who is fit again after a lengthy spell on the sidelines, are likely to battle it out for Altintop's midfield job, while up front Kevin Kuranyi is given the nod over Danish youngster Soren Larsen.
