Bundesliga round-up

Bayern Munich and Schalke kept up their Bundesliga challenge with fine wins.

Both Bayern Munich and Schalke kept up their Bundesliga challenge with fine wins to remain joint top in Germany.

UEFA Champions League quarter finalists Munich remain top after a 3-0 away demolition of Wolfsburg at the VW-Arena.

Young starlet Bastian Schweinsteiger opened the scoring after half an hour before Wolfsburg stopper Kevin Hofland put through his own net on the stroke of half time.

German international midfielder Torsten Frings then wrapped things up ten minutes after the break for Felix Magath's side.

Schalke enjoyed a tremendous first half as they saw off FC Nurnberg 4-1 at the Arena AufSchalke.

Mike Hanke picked up a brace within 36 minutes, before big Brazilian striker Ailton (pictured) capped a good first 45 with another.

Nurnberg gave themselves a chance through a 55th minute Samuel Slovak strike, although the home side restored their advantage through Real Madrid target Lincoln.

Stuttgart took an important step to claiming third place as they were grateful for a last gasp strike to beat fourth placed Werder Bremen 2-1.

A goalless first half was followed by a rollercoaster of a second as Silvio Meissner put Stuttgart ahead before Ivan Klasnic equalised just four minutes later.

However Stuttgart midfielder Christian Tiffert will be left to take the plaudits after settling the tie in the 86th minute.

Bayer Leverkusen slipped up in the race for the European spots after falling to a 1-0 away defeat to Arminia Bielefeld.

Radmoir Dalovic slotted in the all-important strike after 66 minutes to grant Bielefeld an important three points.

Hamburg missed a good chance to accelerate away from Leverkusen as they could only draw 1-1 with bottom side Freiburg.

Indeed the relegation certainties took the lead through Dennis Kruppke within 20 minutes, although Hamburg pulled one back through Almami Moreira before half time.

Hansa Rostock saw off Mainz 2-0 at home to leave the visitors in danger of relegation.

Goals in either half from Thomas Rasmussen and Michael Hartmann were enough to gift Rostock the win at the Ostsee Stadion.

Hannover leapfrogged Kaiserslautern in the table as they beat their rivals 2-0 away from home.

A brace from Jiri Kaufman was enough to grab the win, as he claimed his first after 72 minutes before wrapping things up in injury time.
