Schalke extend unbeaten run

SCHALKE moved up to joint-second in the Bundesliga with a 2-1 win over Borussia Monchengladbach, while Stuttgart registered their first win of the season with a comprehensive victory over Arminia Bielefeld.

Schalke are generally challenging for honours in Die Bundesliga, and showed real grit to get the better of their visitors.

Christian Poulsen set Schalke on their way with the opener on 15 minutes, but they were pegged back when Joris van Hout scored on the half-hour.

However, Schalke`s persistence was rewarded when Victor Agali (pictured) scored on the stroke of half-time and they held firm to claim the points.

Stuttgart went into their game with Arminia knowing they had to start turning draws into wins, and that was exactly what they did.

Kevin Kuranyi was the hero for the home side, netting all three goals as Arminia crumbled in the face of intense Stuttgart pressure.
