Mirko Slomka is set for a contract extension as Hannover coach, according to the club's director of sport Jorg Schmadtke.

Slomka's current deal expires next summer but the club are keen to come to a new agreement with the 45-year-old who has guided the team during the two most successful seasons in their history.

With the Reds currently fifth in the Bundesliga things are going from strength to strength at the AWD-Arena and Schmadtke believes negotiations are likely to go smoothly.

"Our aspirations are the same. That is a foundation to be able to lead successful negotiations and that is what we are doing."

"Our aspirations are the same," said Schmadtke. "That is a foundation to be able to lead successful negotiations and that is what we are doing."

Slomka led Schalke to the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League in 2008 and his reputation continues to grow, recently earning praise from Bayern Munich president Uli Hoeness.

But he insists he has no intention of using Hannover as a springboard to a better job.

"If I extend my contract with Hannover, then I will put my heart and soul into it. There would be no alternatives then," Slomka told Sport1 television.

"Of course, it is nice to be liked and rated in the Bundesliga, especially when your work is recognised."
