Werder Bremen striker Markus Rosenberg is set to be among a host of players who will leave the club this summer.
The 29-year-old's contract is up for renewal, but he told club bosses in a meeting last week that he will not be signing a new deal.
Bremen have also decided they will not be extending the contract of several players, such as former Arsenal and Manchester United defender Mikael Silvestre and ex-Germany international Tim Borowski.
But Rosenberg is leaving out of his own choice and his start in Saturday's season-concluding defeat by Schalke, which left Bremen in ninth place in the Bundesliga, will almost certainly be his final appearance.
New challenge
"We had a final chat and we are going to part company," he told Swedish television channel
TV5.
Rosenberg is Bremen's second-best goalscorer this season with 10 goals in 32 games, six fewer than Claudio Pizarro, whose future also remains uncertain.
He joined Bremen in 2007 and has made a total of 122 appearances, spending most of last season on loan with Racing Santander.
"It was a wonderful time for Markus, but unfortunately it is now ending," his agent, Martin Dahlin, told
Bild.
"He will look for a new challenge and he has offers from within the Bundesliga and from abroad."
Bremen, though, did last week announce a new three-year contract with Austrian international defender Sebastian Prodl.
