Wolfsburg boss Felix Magath wants to secure Diego Benaglio to a new contract and the goalkeeper is keen to stay if the club's manager remains at Volkswagen Arena.
The Switzerland international's current deal expires in the summer of 2013 and that has led to speculation about his future as he approaches the final 12 months.
But Wolfsburg are reportedly offering a one-year extension for 28-year-old Benaglio, who was a signing from Portuguese club CD Nacional in the January of 2008.
And manager Magath said in
Bild: "It is a fact, we would like to sign a new deal with Diego Benaglio."
But Magath's own future is far from certain, as the club remain in a disappointing ninth place in the Bundesliga despite Saturday's 3-1 win at Nurnberg.
And Benaglio has indicated he is only likely to sign a new deal if he is given guarantees over Magath.
Ideal
Benaglio said: "I have been at this club for four years overall. I like being a player of Wolfsburg.
"But I also want to link my future with that of Felix Magath. He is the ideal manager for this club.
"I know we will be back at the top of the Bundesliga with him in charge of the team's affairs."
Meanwhile, Chile striker Carlos Munoz claims Wolfsburg remain interested in signing him after previous interest in the winter transfer window.
The Colo-Colo striker is happy at his current club, but he told
Wolfsburger Allgemeine Zeitung newspaper: "I had the chance to move to the Bundesliga and Wolfsburg already in January.
"I am very proud to know that the interest of Wolfsburg in my services is still very much on."
