Schalke have emerged as favourites to land Alemannia Aachen rising star Marco Hoger.
The midfielder has told his current club from the second-tier of German football that he has no plans to extend his contract.
Hoger's deal at the Tivoli stadium expires in June 2012 and he is reportedly a target for various clubs from the top flight, with Schalke 04 leading the way.
Former Liverpool and Preston striker Erik Meijer, Alemannia Aachen's general manager, told Aachener Zeitung: "Marco Hoger has told us he does not want to extend his contract at our club.
"If a bid comes in for him from any club, we have to seriously consider selling him for money this summer or keep hold of a very good player for the final year of his contract."
