Mainz have agreed a contract extension with Elkin Soto until the summer of 2013.

Risse set to stay; Muller will arrive on four-year contract

Mainz general manager Christian Heidel has confirmed that the club has agreed a contract extension with Elkin Soto until the summer of 2013. The Colombia midfielder's previous deal was set to expire this summer, but he is now ready to sign a two-year extension with this season's surprise package in the Bundesliga. Mainz's positive news regarding Soto, 30, follows Heidel's revelation last week that the club plans to activate the option to buy on-loan Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Marcel Risse. The Germany Under 21 international has made 13 impressive appearances this season, despite an injury, and his permanent transfer is set to be completed in the summer for a reported fee of £700,000. Mainz have also signed 23-year-old attack-minded midfielder Nicolai Muller from Bundesliga 2 outfit SpVgg Greuther Furth on a contract until June 2015. The transfer will be completed at the end of the current season, with a £1.2million fee understood to have been agreed.
