Tchoyi could be given new role against arch-rivals Wolves

Somen Tchoyi could be given a striking role by West Brom boss Roberto Di Matteo in Sunday's Black Country derby. The Baggies boss could be without Peter Odemwingie for the clash against Wolves at the Hawthorns as the forward struggles to overcome a calf injury. And with Marc-Antoine Fortune failing to impress in the defeat against Aston Villa last weekend and Ishmael Miller far from being fully fit, Di Matteo is weighing up his options. Although Cameroon international Tchoyi is a natural midfielder, he has played up front on occasions during his time at Red Bull Salzburg and is currently the Baggies' second top goalscorer with four goals.

Emergency

Di Matteo told the Birmingham Mail: "It's something we've looked at. "The only issue is that I haven't actually had chance to try it out in pre-season, which is a shame. "You can try different things in pre-season and see how players fit in and whether they can play a role for you in an emergency. "We've got three strikers here at the moment and if they chip in with goals, it's not a problem. "If Peter's not playing, we need Marco, Ishmael or whoever's playing up top to score goals, because that's what ultimately wins you games. "As much as you want players in other positions to chip in with goals, you do need somebody up front who gets on the end of your link-up play." Di Matteo added he would like to see Fortune swiftly adding to his tally of just one goal for the campaign so far. He told the club's official website: "We knew about Marco's goalscoring record. "He hasn't yet hit his best form for us this season. "He's scored a good goal and played some good games but he hasn't really hit it off as yet. He's still chasing his best form a little bit."
