Goalkeeper suffers abdomen injury in training

Hoffenheim look set to be without Tom Starke until the New Year after he suffered an abdomen injury. The goalkeeper sustained the problem in training ahead of Saturday's meeting with Hamburg. He was unable to play any part in a 2-1 defeat for Hoffenheim and is now facing up to a prolonged spell on the sidelines. The news comes as a major blow to manager Ralf Rangnick, who has guided his club to fifth place in the Bundesliga standings.

Experience

"Tom Starke, our first-team goalkeeper, has been injured in training and it looks like he will be unavailable for some time," Rangnick told spox.com. Sporting director Ernst Tanner added: "Tom Starke is one of the more established players in our squad. "With him out, it is obvious that our young team is going to miss his experience." Starke joined Hoffenheim from Duisburg over the summer and was immediately installed as the club's No.1.
