Jonas Olsson admitted West Brom rode their luck during Saturday's 2-2 Premier League draw against Manchester United.
The Swedish defender believes memories of past performances provided an inner strength as the West Midlands side fought back from two goals down to secure an unlikely point.
United were cruising to three points thanks to goals before the break from Javier Hernandez and Nani.
But Patrice Evra then put the ball into his own net before Somen Tchoyi pounced on an Edwin Van der Sar fumble to haul Roberto Di Matteo's side level following the interval.
Solid
Olsson admitted: "We weren't as solid as we have been and they had enough chances to put the game away.
"But when you play against some of the best players in the world you expect that kind of thing.
"The thing is, when you have been down a few times, you have it in the back of your head that if you fall behind again you can come back.
"We just felt if we got a goal, United would start to get a bit nervous. We took advantage of it.
"After that, we could have taken more, although a draw at Old Trafford is still a very good result."
The Baggies have now taken points off United, Tottenham and Arsenal following their opening day thrashing by Chelsea.
Instinct
Meanwhile, Baggies hero Somen Tchoyi revealed he had to show his gambler's instinct at Old Trafford.
On his first Premier League start, the 27-year-old gleefully tapped home after Van der Sar's error in spilling Chris Brunt's cross.
"I just went for the cross and hoped it would come for me," he said.
"I was just focused on the goal. I was waiting for something - and I got it."
