Japanese striker signs two-and-a-half year deal

Wolfsburg have confirmed the capture of Yoshito Okubo from J-League's Vissel Kobe. Kobe announced over the weekend that the Japanese striker was set to sign for the Bundesliga club and the transfer has now been made official. Okubo joins on a two-and-a-half year deal and is looking forward to the new challenge ahead of him. "I'm delighted to be in Wolfsburg. It's an honour for me that the trainer has been observing me for such a long time," he told reporters at a press conference. "I will try to meet his expectations and wish to do my best for the team." Wolfsburg boss Felix Magath was equally happy after finally landing a player he had been watching for a while. "I'm very pleased to have the opportunity to work together with a player that I've had my eye on for quite some time," said Magath. "His attacking qualities make him a player who can be used in a number of offensive positions and that could see him fulfil an important role within the team. "I'm sure he will feel right at home here and provide both the Bundesliga and the fans with plenty of pleasure." Okubo will join Makoto Hasebe as Wolfsburg's second Japanese signing.
