Brazilian defender welcomes fresh challenge

Udinese centre-half Felipe has joined Serie A rivals Fiorentina on loan until the end of the season. The agreement includes an option for the deal to made permanent in the summer should the Viola wish to do so. The 25-year-old has been training with Fiorentina for the past week, as he waited for the January transfer window to open, but has now officially completed his switch. The Brazilian had been looking to take on a new challenge after making just three appearances for Udinese this season. Felipe is a graduate of the academy structure at Stadio Friuli and made his bow in the Italian top flight in April 2003. He was touted as one the most promising defenders in European football at that stage, but has seen a series of niggling injuries curtail his progress since then. Meanwhile, whilst Felipe has left Udinese - they have sealed the signing 18-year-old James Rodriguez from Banfield in Argentina. However, Rodriguez will remain with Banfield until the summer.
