Rutten wants to bring Moroccan to Philips Stadion this summer

PSV coach Fred Rutten has confirmed the club's interest in signing Ajax striker Mounir El Hamdaoui ahead of the new season. The Eredivisie giants are desperate to bolster their frontline having parted ways with Marcus Berg, Danny Koevermans, Jonathan Reis and Stef Nijland this summer. And Rutten sees 27-year-old Morocco international El Hamdaoui as an ideal signing. He told Eindhovens Daglblad: "I'd love to make him [El Hamdaoui] part of my team. It's not a big secret that we're in the market for a new attacker and he'd really add something to the team." The signing of Icelandic hitman Kolbeinn Sigthorsson at the Amsterdam Arena means El Hamdaoui could be surplus to requirements at Ajax this season.

Waiting

He is under contract with the Dutch champions until summer 2014 but his agent, Sigi Lens, is not ruling out a move and is waiting to hear from PSV. "PSV have not reported to me. I have not yet spoken to Mounir," he said. "A club that plays for the title or the Champions League is currently an option for him. Even a move abroad is a possibility." He added: "Mounir is currently under contract with Ajax. Next month he will consult with his current employer and make a decision about the future. "We have time until August 31st."
