Bonazzoli suffered the problem during a training session and only in the next few days will the full extent of the injury become clear.
An early diagnosis has suggested that there has been a lesion to the ligament and the player faces between one and five months out.
The player will now undergo further scans at the club to get a clearer idea of the extent of the injury.
