AC Milan goalkeeper Diego Lopez has backed fellow summer signing Fernando Torres to be a success at his new club.

Lopez and Torres were two of the big names brought to the San Siro in a pre-season overhaul of Filippo Inzaghi’s squad, joining from Real Madrid and Chelsea respectively.

Torres, 30, moved to Italy on a two-year loan after a difficult spell at Stamford Bridge, but Lopez is confident of the Spain striker rediscovering his best form with Milan.

"He will be really useful to Milan. He has the characteristics to do good things at a team like Milan," Lopez told the club’s official website.

"He’s an experienced player and it will be important too."

Lopez penned a four-year deal with Inzaghi’s side following Madrid’s purchase of Costa Rican keeper Keylor Navas.

When asked why he chose Milan, Lopez said: "Because when there was the possibility to come here, I took the decision with certainty.

"As a club, Milan have a big history.

"Slowly we must continue doing good things. We are working in a positive way with coach Inzaghi and we can recover trying to play match by match and winning."
