Italy Under-21 international emerges as a target for Serie A rivals

Genoa president Enrico Preziosi has confirmed Roma are leading the chase to sign highly-rated striker Mattia Destro. The 21-year-old enjoyed a fruitful campaign last year as he scored 13 goals from 30 appearances while on loan at Siena. Destro is co-owned by Siena and Genoa and reports in Italy suggest the Giallorossi could sell Fabio Borini to Liverpool in order to generate funds for a bid for Destro. Roma's sporting director Walter Sabatini has done nothing to dampen speculation about an impending bid after scheduling a meeting with Preziosi next week. "Sabatini has asked me about Destro," Preziosi told www.asromanews.it. "Next week we will meet Siena to discuss the situation." Destro is under contract with Genoa until June 2015.
