Ghana star will not be handed permanent deal by Sunderland

Sunderland have confirmed that on-loan midfielder Sulley Muntari has returned to Inter Milan and they will not be trying to sign him on a permanent basis. The 26-year-old spent the second half of the season at the Stadium of Light, but the former Portsmouth man failed to live up to expectations. Sunderland have now released Muntari back to Inter because if he played any more games then that would have triggered a clause that would have seen the move become permanent. Black Cats chief Steve Bruce, though, has opted not to pursue the Ghana ace. "Sulley has been a great professional in his time here and naturally we'd like to thank him for his contribution to our season and wish him all the best for the future," said Bruce. He added: "He is a good pro and he is a good player, a very good player, but we have made that decision at the moment. "Who knows? Later on, we might address that. I have always prided myself that you have to get good value for money. "It is part of good management - it certainly is part of my remit too, of course, that you have to look after the club as well. "It's a disappointment because I could have done with him for the last couple of games, but if we had played him, it would have triggered the automatic clause which was in there and at this particular moment, it's too rich."
