Villarreal have confirmed that Tottenham have made enquiries for their goalkeeper Diego Lopez.
The highly-rated Spaniard has impressed hugely at El Madrigal since his summer switch from Real Madrid.
Lopez has taken his first-team opportunity with both hands and scouts from across Europe have been checking on his progress.
Manchester United have previously been credited with an interest and
skysports.com can now reveal that city rivals Manchester City are the latest Premier League side to check on him.
City boss Sven Goran Eriksson was represented in the weekend clash, as Villarreal defeated Atletico Madrid.
The Yellow Submarines claimed a 3-0 win and Diego impressed with another clean-sheet.
New deal
However, all the interested parties will be loath to learn that Villarreal have managed to tie Lopez to a new long-term deal.
He had three-years left on his current contract, but he has now increased that by a further three years - taking him to 2014.
But more importantly for Villarreal, his release clause has increased to some 35million euros (£27million).
Villarreal president Fernando Roig confirmed on Sunday that a host of clubs including Milan and Tottenham - who are also tracking Espanyol's Carlos Kameni - had asked about Diego.
"He is a big keeper and we want him to be with this club for a long time," Roig told
Canal 9.
"It's true that clubs like Milan and Tottenham have asked about the chances of getting him but we have no desire to sell."
Roig also revealed that his club would not be signing Chelsea's Claudio Pizarro but was interested in Real Madrid's Ruben De La Red - currently impressing on loan at Getafe.
Pizarro was linked with a summer move to Spain, but Roig stated: "He is a player that does not interest us."
On De La Red, he confirmed he wanted him but feels the player will be returning to the Bernabeu next season.
"It is complicated because I think that Real Madrid has decided that he will return to their first-team next season," he said.
