Duo disappointed at omission

Filippo Inzaghi and Nicola Legrottaglie have expressed their disappointment at missing out on Italy's squad for this summer's European Championships.

Milan striker Inzaghi has been omitted because of his lack of fitness, while Juventus defender Legrottaglie has been left out after suffering a loss of form.

Inzaghi is still recovering from ankle surgery he underwent two weeks ago and, although obviously disappointed at not being included in the squad, he remains calm about the decision by Giovanni Trapattoni.

"I'm serene but disappointed. I've tried in all way to recover from the injury, working also eight hours a day," Inzaghi told Milan's official website.

"I did it because, I had assurances to be called up if I was able to show my real physical conditions before June 2.

"I'm sorry because there won't be this medical check although I thought I deserved this right for what I gave to national team in general and in particular in recent European qualifiers."

Legrottaglie admitted he expected the decision after missing the recent friendly with Spain and because of his indifferent form at Juve this season.

"If I am to be honest I had this negative sensation also after the friendly with Spain. Usually I was the natural replacement for Nesta, but in that occasion I didn't play.

"Trapattoni called me this morning (Tuesday) referring also to the physical problems I had this season. But I think to have paid the price for the many critics I've received this season and the bad year Juve have had."
