Pirlo close to Rossoneri return

MILAN midfielder Andrea Pirlo has confirmed he is close to a return for the Rossoneri after recovering from injury.

The Italian international midfielder strained knee ligaments earlier this month and it was doubtful whether he would play again this season.

Carlo Ancelotti has an alarmingly long injury list at the San Siro giants and the news that the midfielder could make a return will be welcome news, as they battle it out for second spot in Serie A as well as face neighbours Internazionale in the semi-final of the Champions League.

"Now I feel better and on Thursday I'll start working with my team-mates," affirmed Pirlo.

"I hope to be at the coach's disposal for Saturday, then he'll decide if he needs me or not.

"Luckily the knee doesn't give me any pain and I overcame the risk of surgery."

Concerning the Champions League, Pirlo added: "We are close to our aim.

"In this tournament we have imposed our game and we want to make a positive performance against Inter.

"It will be a different derby, it won't be like the championship one.

"We don't think of ourselves as favourites even though we have recently beaten them two times.

"Christian Vieri's absence is an advantage for us, but we can't undervalue them.

"In the Champions League Italian teams have showed their true value.

"I'd like to reach the final now, and to face Real Madrid."
