Cagliari deny Marchetti talk

Cagliari have rejected claims that the club refused to let Federico Marchetti join Serie A rivals Roma.

Club's general director stamps on Roma reports

Cagliari general director Francesco Marroccu has denied claims that the club refused to let goalkeeper Federico Marchetti join Roma. Reports in Italy suggested Cagliari president Massimo Cellino had blocked a move for the 27-year-old shot-stopper, who arrived at the Serie A club last summer. But Marroccu insists the transfer has not even been discussed with their Italian rivals. "There was never a negotiation with Roma," Marroccu told Sky Italia. "I've only spoken generally with Giallorossi official Daniele Prade. "To open a negotiation, you must meet. And we haven't met anyone. "So it is not true saying that president Cellino refused the player's transfer." Italian keeper Marchetti announced his desire to leave the Sant'Elia last month, and has reportedly attracted interest from Arsenal and Fulham this summer.
