Totti making progress

Francesco Totti is making excellent progress in his bid to recover for the World Cup.

Francesco Totti is making excellent progress in his bid to recover from the fractured ankle that threatens his World Cup dreams.

The Roma playmaker is a major doubt for Italy's squad for Germany after enduring a nightmare injury whilst in Serie A action.

However, Totti has now promised to be available for the Azzurri, in news that will delight coach Marcello Lippi, after receiving positive news from his doctors.

A screw has been removed from Totti's ankle and the early diagnosis appears to be one that suggests the player could yet be on the plane to Germany.

''I will be at the World Cup,'' Totti told Rai TV.

It is expected that Totti will try and walk without the aid of crutches next week before beginning on the arduous road to full recovery.
