Totti targets quick recovery

Roma star Francesco Totti is confident he will be fit in time for the World Cup.

Roma star Francesco Totti is confident he will be fit in time for the World Cup.

Totti faces up to three months on the sidelines after breaking his leg on Sunday against Empoli.

The 29-year-old sustained the injury after a tackle from Empoli defender Richard Vanigli and it has raised fears he may struggle to make Italy's squad for this summer's World Cup finals.

Totti has undergone a successful operation and he has set his sights on a quick return to action so that he is fit and ready for the World Cup.

"I hope to make it for the World Cup," said Totti

"I'm going home on Tuesday and on Wednesday I will begin with physiotherapy."

Totti also refused to blame Vanigli for the injury.

"It wasn't a nasty tackle but usually tackles from behind can cause serious injuries," added Totti.

Roma coach Luciano Spalletti fears that Totti's injury could dent his team's morale.

"I fear Francesco's injury could have a heavy weight on the team's morale," he said.

"We must keep concentrate. We have good elements and a big group and we can go forward.

"Anyway my guys seem really motivated and they must give their best. We must do it also for Francesco."
