Lippi's Cassano concern

Italy coach Marcello Lippi has voiced his concern at Antonio Cassano's contract saga.

Italy coach Marcello Lippi has voiced his concern at the contract saga embroiling Roma and their temperamental striker Antonio Cassano.

Following his initial refusal to sign a new deal at Stadio Olimpico, Cassano did reconvene negotiations with technical director Bruno Conti on Thursday.

However, despite Conti's best efforts, the Italian international is reported to have rejected the latest offer.

The recent nature of discussions may prompt the club to recommend to coach Luciano Spalletti that he omits Cassano from the side to face Messina on Sunday.

And Lippi insists he cannot select Cassano for his World Cup squad unless he is playing at club level on a regular basis.

‚Ç£If Antonio is not in the Azzurri squad, it is because he hasn't really played at club level this season,‚Ç¥ Lippi told Tuttosport.

‚Ç£I don't know the precise reasons why he has been excluded from the Roma side, but until the situation changes, I cannot bring him in. I have not placed any deadlines, but I cannot wait for eternity.‚Ç¥
