Inter reveal Maxwell agreement

Massimo Moratti has confirmed that Inter are set to sign Maxwell from Ajax.

Internazionale president Massimo Moratti has confirmed that the club are set to sign Maxwell from Ajax.

The Brazilian has struggled with a serious knee injury this season, but his reputation is such that several top teams have been in pursuit of his signature.

The 24-year-old's contract expires in the summer, and he has gone on record as saying that he would be interested in a move to Italy or Spain.

Moratti has now revealed that a deal has been done, with Maxwell likely to sign after the World Cup due to the fact that Inter currently have their full quota of players from outside the EU.

"We have an agreement with Maxwell," he announced. "We rate Maxwell highly and are bringing him in with one eye on the future."

Moratti also divulged that Inter would only enter the race to sign Michael Ballack from Bayern Munich if Argentinian star Juan Sebastian Veron definitely decides to move on.

Veron has indicated that he is longing to return to his homeland, but everyone at Inter is sure to do everything they can to keep the midfielder at the San Siro.

"Ballack is a very interesting player. He has undoubted class and is surely somebody who could make a difference here," Moratti acknowledged.

"Whether we need him in June depends on Veron. I only hope that Veron understands how much everyone at Inter wants him to stay."
