Milan squandered the chance to close on Juventus after a 1-1 home draw with Roma.

Milan squandered the chance to close on leaders Juventus after a 1-1 home draw with Roma.

Things started brightly for Carlo Ancelotti's men when Andrei Shevchenko edged them ahead after just six minutes.

The hosts went on to dominate the first half, but could not extend their advantage.

They were to pay the price three minutes after the break when Vincenzo Montella restored parity, knocking home at the second attempt after his chip over Dida had come back off the bar.

Adriano won Internazionale a share of the spoils with a late equaliser against Fiorentina, but Roberto Mancini's side lost more ground on the leaders.

Fiorentina looked set for a victory which would have taken them above their opponents after Dario Dainelli had moved them ahead on 26 minutes.

However, in-form Adriano struck with nine minutes remaining to earn a point.

Udinese beat Lecce 4-3 to move up to fourth, and level on points with their opponents.

Lecce actually twice took the lead in an enthralling clash through Valeri Bojinov (34 and 55) after Marek Jankulovski had equalised the Bulgarian's opener with a 44th minute penalty.

Antonio di Natale made it 2-2 on 72 minutes and Vincenzo Iaquinta then put the visitors ahead ten minutes from time.

Mirko Vucinic appeared to have rescued a point for Lecce when he struck two minutes from time, but Jankulovski converted a last-minute penalty to clinch a remarkable win for the visitors.

High-flying Messina took a point from their trip to Bologna, Arturo di Napoli and Nicola Amoruso netted in the first period, but Bologna replied through Massimo Loviso and Giacomo Cipriani.

Lazio could only muster a 1-1 home draw with lowly Siena despite taking the lead through Fernando Couto just after the restart, Daniele Portanova levelled matters after 66 minutes.

Atalanta and Sampdoria and Cagliari and Livorno both played out goalless draws, while Parma took a much-needed point from their away-day at Palermo, although it could have been better as Alberto Gilardino saw his opener cancelled out by Mariano Gonzalez 17 minutes from time.
