SIMIC SET TO EXTEND STAY

CROATIAN international Dario Simic believes he is close to securing a deal with Internazionale as the Serie A side looks to build for the future, whilst suffering a poor season.

The 26-year-old, signed from Croatia Zagreb in 1999, is nicknamed 'Pitbull' but his fiery attitude on the pitch has not been matched by many of his team-mates, as Inter have failed to challenge on any front.

Before he joined Inter, fellow Italian sides Juventus and Milan were said to be interested in the player but now it appears the Giuseppe Meazza will be a long-term home for the player.

Simic said: "They are ready and near to extending my contract with Inter.  My deal expires in June 2002 and it is already being discussed.

"They are happy that the club has demonstrated, in this way, to have confidence in my ability and they appreciated the job I have done for them."
