Japanese striker linked with move to newcomers Novara

Serie A outfit Catania are hopeful that Japanese striker Takayuki Morimoto will stay at the club next season, despite reported interest from a number of clubs. The 23-year-old is understood to be interested in a move away following an indifferent campaign and, according to Gazetta dello Sport, Novaro have emerged as strong favourites to sign the former Tokyo Verdy star. Catania's signing of Argentina international Gonzalo Bergessio limited his chances even further last season and the player is reported to have set his sights on a move away. However, general manager Pietro Lo Monaco is hopeful that Morimoto will change his mind following the arrival of new head coach Vincenzo Montella, and is confident he will stay at the Stadio Angelo Massimino. "We're not sure about Taka, but it's probable he will remain," he said. It is understood that relegated Sampdoria and Russian outfit Lokomativ Moscow are also interested in signing the forward, although Morimoto is thought to be keen on joining a club which could offer him more playing time.
