Juventus defender Jonathan Zebina is set to be sidelined for around three months after having an operation.
Zebina has been troubled by an inflamed tendon in his left leg for some time but Juve had wanted to avoid surgery.
However, he continued to experience discomfort and was forced to go under the knife on Thursday.
Reports suggest that Zebina will not fully recover until February, meaning he will miss a key stage of the Serie A season.
The 30-year-old Frenchman will also have to sit out a number of crucial UEFA Champions League matches.
