Juventus have been quick to play down reports linking the club with Antonio Cassano.

Old Lady not looking to sign Sampdoria striker

Juventus president Giovanni Cobolli Gigli has been quick to play down reports linking the club with Antonio Cassano. Speculation was rife over the summer that the Serie A giants were keen on taking the Italy international to Turin. However, with Amauri, Alessandro Del Piero, David Trezeguet and Vincenzo Iaquinta already at the club, Gigli believes the Bianconeri do not need another attacking option. "Cassano? There are no spaces for him," the president explained when questioned about the Sampdoria hit-man. "Saying he's not a good player would be blasphemy, but we have young players who can become great champions and we must concentrate on their development." Meanwhile, Juve are rumoured to be ready to offer a contract extension to midfielder Sebastian Giovinco. The new deal would keep the 21-year-old at Juve until at least 2013.
