Matteo Ferrari's agent has claimed the Roma defender is in talks with Milan and Fiorentina.

Agent claims defender is to leave Stadio Olimpico

Milan and Fiorentina are in talks with Matteo Ferrari after the defender chose to part company with Roma, according to the player's agent. The out-of-contract Italian's four-year stint at Stadio Olimpico is due to come to an end this summer after his agent explained he will seek a new challenge. Ferrari, who had a loan spell at Everton in the 2005/06 season, was offered a fresh contract by Roma but decided against prolonging his stay. "It was our choice to change clubs," agent Gianni Corci said on Teleradiostereo.

Abroad

"I want to silence the voices that are suggesting that Roma wanted rid of the player. "The Giallorossi made us a very good four-year offer, but there was a discussion and we decided to go down a different path. Matteo will leave the club on excellent terms. "Talks with Fiorentina and Milan are underway and by the end of this week or the start of next week I expect news. "At the moment I would say that Ferrari won't be going abroad, even if there is a contract waiting to be signed. "As well as not wanting to slip out of Azzurri contention, Matteo doesn't have a great desire to leave Italy."
