David Moyes will return to Glasgow in early July when his Real Sociedad side take on Scottish champions Celtic in a pre-season friendly.

The 52-year-old Glaswegian, who spent three years with the Hoops as a player in the early 1980s, brings his La Liga outfit to Scotland on Friday July 10.

The match will take place at St Mirren Park in nearby Paisley because Celtic’s own ground is undergoing a refurbishment.

The teams have not faced each other for 33 years, when they met in the European Cup and when defender Moyes was among the Celtic substitutes.

Sociedad finished 12th in the La Liga table this year, after Moyes moved to the club in November 2014.

Other pre-season games for Ronny Deila's men – which are also being staged in Paisley – are against Dutch side Den Bosch on Wednesday July 1 and Czech outfit Dukla Prague three days later.

Celtic will then fly to Spain to play Eibar on Saturday July 18, before returning to Celtic Park where they will meet French club Rennes on Saturday July 25.

The Hoops will also be involved in the early qualifying rounds of the Champions League, with the draw set to be made later this month.
