Contreras keen for Celta chance

CHILE international Pablo Contreras has expressed his delight at the opportunity to establish himself at the Galician club next term.

The South American spent last year on loan at Sporting Lisbon, but after being impressed with the defender's displays for the Portuguese outfit, Celta boss Miguel Angel Lotina is to give Contreras his chance at El Balaidos this season.

"I am very happy with the decision that the coach has taken of giving me a place in the squad," declared Contreras.

"I want to win myself a place in the team. Excluding the fact that I never wanted to leave the team, I had very good experiences in Osasuna and Sporting.

"Everybody has treated me very well since I arrived at Celta.

"My team-mates have given me a warm welcome. I am not going to say that I have friends in the team because I haven't been here so much time.

"La Liga is a very competitive championship. Celta were knocked out last year by a second division team in the Copa del Rey, so all the rivals must be respected.

"My biggest wish is to have the chance to celebrate a title with Celta. I have two personal challenges. The first one is to win myself a place in the team, something very difficult.

"Then, if it is possible, to have a transfer to somewhere else but I really don't know in how much time this could all happen."
