Dani set for extended lay-off

REAL BETIS striker Dani will have to undergo surgery after tearing ligaments in his right ankle.

The young forward sustained the injury in his side's recent friendly against La Rotena.

Although he was able to continue playing in the game after picking up the knock, even managing to score a goal, tests later revealed that an operation would be needed to correct the problem.

It is still unclear how long the 21-year-old will be out of action, but he is expected to be sidelined for at least three months.

The news comes a big blow to the youngster whose bid to establish himself in Victor Fernandez's first team was undermined by niggling injuries last term, and acknowledged that his latest setback was a huge frustration.

"Up until now I was fine, I felt good and was scoring goals," said Dani.

"I was never injured in my life, but now I'm in the first team it seems to always happen."
