Romeo opts for Osasuna

Hamburg striker Bernardo Romeo has completed a move to Osasuna.

Argentine striker Bernardo Romeo has completed a move to Osasuna after ending his unhappy spell with Bundesliga side Hamburg.

The 27-year-old returns to Spain following a loan spell with Real Mallorca last season, after rejecting approaches from Panathinaikos and an unnamed Moscow side to kick-start his career at Estadio El Sadar.

His time in Germany was dogged by underachievement after moving to Hamburg for ‚é¼5.6 million in 2002 and the striker is determined to prove his quality after also struggling to make an impression with Mallorca.

"I had a number of offers from other countries but I chose Osasuna because I still had a bitter taste in my mouth as a result of my first season in Spain," said Romeo.

"I am determined to succeed in this league.

"For various reasons I couldn't play as much as I wanted [at Mallorca], but that is in the past and I'm now starting a new stage.

"I'm very happy to be here."
