The Primera Liga match between Rayo Vallecano and Real Madrid was postponed on Sunday night amid reports of sabotage at Estadio de Vallecas.
The clash was due to kick-off late on Sunday evening but was called off before fans were allowed to enter the stadium because of the issue, which left the pitch without floodlights.
Vallecano president Raul Martin Presa told
AS: "Vandals have cut the wire.
"We're trying to fix the problem as soon as possible. The police are investigating the incident."

Real Mallorca's fantastic start to the season continued as they beat
Valencia 2-0 to move on to 11 points from five games.
Victor Casadesus fired the hosts into the lead after only seven minutes when his shot squeezed under Diego Alves, but the visitors went onto enjoy more of the ball for the rest of the half and were unlucky not to be level when Nelson Valdez's header came crashing back off the underside of the bar.
Despite continued pressure from Valencia, Mallorca extended their lead on 55 minutes as Javier Arizmendi collected a Victor flick-on with his first touch before dispatching a volley low past Alves.
Obafemi Martins struck a dramatic late winner on his debut as
Levante came from behind to defeat
Real Sociedad 2-1.
Former Inter Milan and Newcastle striker Martins only formalised his move to Levante on Friday after being allowed to leave Rubin Kazan, and repaid his new employers' faith with a goal just 41 minutes after entering the action as a half-time substitute.
David Zurutuza had earlier handed visiting Sociedad a first-half lead that they held until the 70th minute when Jose Barkero levelled from the penalty spot.
Work hard
Atletico Madrid recorded their fifth consecutive win with a 2-1 victory over

Diego Godin opened the scoring for the hosts on the half-hour as he exchanged passes with Koke before lifting the ball calmly over Jaime, and Radamel Falcao continued his fantastic form by slotting home a penalty a minute before the break.
However the visitors were gifted a way back into the game when Thibaut Courtois fumbled Alberto Bueno's weak effort into his own net, and the Europa League holders were grateful for the final whistle as Valladolid piled on the pressure towards the end.
Chances were few and far between at San Mames as
Athletic Bilbao played out a dull draw with
Malaga.
Aritz Aduriz hit the side-netting for the home side while Eliseu came closest to breaking the deadlock after the interval but the Primera Division match was otherwise a forgettable affair.
