Stopper to depart Villarreal

Left-back Rodolfo Arruabarrena has confirmed he will be leaving Villarreal in the summer.

Left-back Rodolfo Arruabarrena has confirmed he will be leaving Villarreal when his contract expires in the summer.

The 31-year-old Argentine joined the Primera outfit from Boca Juniors in the summer of 2000.

Since then he has been a consistent presence, making over 200 league appearances for the Spaniards as they established themselves as a major force in both La Liga and Europe.

However, Arruabarrena has been left disillusioned by events at the club this season with the club struggling for form following a very public fall-out between coach Manuel Pellegrini and Juan Roman Riquelme.

As a result, he has now decided to seek a fresh challenge at the end of the campaign.

"I have decided to announce I won't be continuing at Villarreal because I see many doubts at the club," he stated.

"Because of this, I have decided to continue my career somewhere else.

"I will analyse the offers I get and the one that convinces me most will be the one I choose. I still think I can play at a high level for another couple of years and I hope to show that."
