Villarreal receive striker boost

Villarreal striker Jose Mari's injury is not as serious as first feared.

Villarreal have been boosted by the news that Jose Mari's injury is not as serious as first feared.

The striker picked up a knee problem in last weekend's 2-1 win over Osasuna.

Initial tests suggested he could be sidelined for up to a month with ligament damage, but those fears have now been allayed.

The player's condition has been reviewed and it is now thought he will be back in action in around a week.

He will still miss this weekend's league clash with Sevilla, but Villarreal coach Manuel Pellegrini is delighted he will be available a lot sooner than expected.

"This is great news," stated Pellegrini.

"I am very happy because at such a key time in the season it would have caused some serious problems in our attack."
