Karagounis lift for Benfica

Giorgias Karagounis has been ruled fit to play in Benfica's game with Villarreal.

Benfica have been handed a real boost ahead of their UEFA Champions League game against Villarreal with news that Giorgias Karagounis has been ruled fit to play.

The Greece international striker has been struggling of late with muscular problems picked up in a recent game against rivals Porto.

Benfica chief Ronald Koeman elected to rest him from domestic action at the weekend and the move appears to have reaped dividends, with Karagounis ready for the arrival of the Spanish outfit on Wednesday.

Whilst Karagounis will start in midweek, Koeman is still sweating over the fitness of influential midfielder Simao and goalkeeper Quim.

It is expected that both players will undergo late fitness tests before Koeman settles on his final starting line-up.
