PALERMO WAITING ON 'GREAT CLUB'

MARTIN PALERMO has revealed his ambition to play for one of the big-guns in La Liga and hopes Villarreal will provide a stepping stone to help him achieve this aim.

The Argentine international has a contract with Villareal until 2005 but the former Boca Juniors ace hopes to score a hatful of goals and wait for the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona to show interest.

"I want to show I can succeed at a great club, one of those that are obliged to win and be at the top," said Palermo.

"It is true that I have a contract here for four more years but I can promote myself.

"If things go well a great team will show an interest in signing me."

The 27-year-old marksman also admitted he missed life at Boca and the passion of the supporters, claiming the Villarreal faithful are not as fanatical.

"It is difficult for me to feel like I did at Boca because it is not the same on the pitch and those passionate people," added Palermo.
